School construction: DoE fines firm for razing 57,000 cubic feet of hill

Department of Environment, Chattogram fined a construction firm Tk 50,000 for razing 57,000 cubic feet of a hill at Kaokhali upazila of Rangamati today.

The fine was imposed on Ratansen Tonchongya Enterprise which was given work order from LGED (Local Government Engineering Department) to construct a new building of Puyapara Model Primary School.

Mohammad Moazzom Hossain, director of DoE Chattogram (region), imposed the fine.

Afzarul Islam, assistant director of DoE who inspected the spot, told The Daily Star that the construction firm razed 57,000 cubic feet of a hill and uprooted hundred trees within the boundary of the existing school which could be in danger due to flattening of hills.

Contacted Avimon Chowdhury, representative of the construction firm, acknowledged the razing.
