UN Special Rapporteur on the human rights situation in Myanmar Tom Andrews yesterday said they all, as part of the international community, have a responsibility to support the Rohingya, noting that Bangladesh “cannot and should not” bear this responsibility alone.

The government has ordered closure of all unauthorised private learning centres and madrasas in Rohingya refugee camps, stating that such centres do not maintain the standards of education and hamper the activities of the authorised ones.

Mohib Ullah was a strong liberal voice for the Rohingyas, and his assassination is yet another setback to the long-stalled repatriation process, experts say.

Bangladesh has sought effective measures by the European Union for creating a conducive environment in Myanmar for sustainable repatriation of the Rohingyas sheltered in the country.
