Rape of Chakma girl: key accused on two-day remand

A local court today placed the key accused on a two-day remand in two cases filed over gang-rape of a Chakma girl and robbery in Khagrachhari on September 24.

A Senior Judicial Magistrate Court of Khagrachhari passed the order this afternoon after police produced Md Amin alias Nurul Amin with a seven-day remand prayer, said Md Rashid, officer-in-charge of Khagrachhari Sadar Police station.

Police are conducting drives to arrest two other accused who remain fugitive, the OC told our Bandarban correspondent.

Nine criminals, aged around 20-22, with sharp weapons broke into the house of a Chakma woman at Bolpaiye Adam area of the district in the early hours of September 24.

They tied up her mother and stepfather and raped her. The perpetrators beat up her mother when she tried to save her daughter, and looted cash and gold ornaments from the house.

Seven of the rapists arrested in connection with the incident are robbers, police said on Sunday.
