Focus on polls, new AL gen secy says
Awami League’s new General Secretary Obaidul Quader laid out his party plans today, a major focus of which will be organising the party bottom-up for the next general elections.
Vowing to meet AL President Sheikh Hasina’s agenda of next polls, Quader said he will be bringing qualitative changes in the organisation which will include discipline along the ranks.

He was briefing the media and addressing his party colleagues on his first day at the job in Dhanmondi’s Priyanka Community Centre in the capital this afternoon.
Awami League’s council ended yesterday with Sheikh Hasina being reelected at its helm and Obaidul Quader replacing Syed Ashraful Islam as the general secretary.
Hasina, after her eighth consecutive reelection to AL chief, told her party men to prepare for the next general elections and emphasised on holding an “unquestionable” polls.

Obaidul Quader, on his plans for the party, today said he will work on developing a strong teamwork, strengthen and expand communication to the grassroots level.
“We have to change our behaviour and become more acceptable to the people,” he said, adding that he will work to make the behaviour of party people more disciplined.
“If we are not able to change ourselves then how can we will be able to change Bangladesh according to the dream of our leader Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina?,” he said.
He also vowed to carry on fighting communalism and extremism in the country according to the commitment set in the party’s national council.
He expected that all political parties will extend their assistance to him to perform his duties.
