Second defamation case against Amir Hamza over remarks on Energy Minister Tuku

A Sirajganj court has taken the complaint into cognisance and issued summons against the lawmaker

Another defamation case has been filed at a Sirajganj court against Kushtia-3 MP Mufti Amir Hamza for allegedly making derogatory remarks about Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku.

​The court of Judge Suman Bhuiyan took the charges in cognisance and issued a summons against the MP.

​The case was filed at around 11:30am today by Advocate Humayun Kabir, general secretary of Sirajganj District Bar Association.

​According to the case statement, during a discussion in Kushtia Sadar on March 27, Mufti Amir Hamza called the energy minister an "atheist" and "anti-Islamic".

​The complainant, Advocate Humayun Kabir, said, “By calling him (Tuku) an 'atheist' and 'anti-Islamic,' Mufti Amir Hamza has caused significant damage to his reputation."

On March 30, another lawyer, Advocate SM Nazmul Islam, filed a defamation case against Amir Hamza in a Sirajganj court over the same issue, seeking Tk 100 crore in compensation for the alleged damage to the minister’s reputation.
