Bidisha Siddiq, ex-wife of Ershad, released from jail
Bidisha Siddiq, former wife of late HM Ershad, former president and founder chairman of the Jatiya Party (JP), was released from the Kashimpur Women’s High-Security Central Jail in Gazipur today.
She was released at 5:12pm all the necessary documents were scrutinised and verified, Senior Jail Superintendent and acting superintendent Md Nazrul Islam told The Daily Star.
The High Court recently granted bail to Bidisha Siddiq in a fraud case.
On Sunday, a High Court bench comprising Justice Md Khairul Alam and Justice Md Rafizul Islam passed the bail order after hearing Bidisha’s bail petition.
Advocates Fazlur Rahman Khan and Masud Mia represented Bidisha during the hearing.
Later, her counsel, Masud Mia, told The Daily Star that there were no other cases pending against Bidisha. Therefore, there was no legal impediment to her release following the High Court order.
Businessman Mosharraf Hossain filed the fraud case against her on February 7, 2008. According to the case statement, the plaintiff is an importer and businessman dealing in sanitary products in the Mirpur-10 area of Dhaka.
