Ecnec approves new Metro Rail project, revises 2 others; total cost Tk 2.5 lakh crore
The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (Ecnec) today approved a new project for the construction of MRT Line-5 (Southern) and revisions to the existing MRT Line-1 and MRT Line-5 (Northern) projects, involving an estimated total cost of around Tk 2.5 lakh crore.
The approval came at an Ecnec meeting chaired by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
Under the decisions, the newly proposed MRT Line-5 (Southern) project will be financed by the Asian Development Bank (ADB), while the revised MRT Line-1 and MRT Line-5 (Northern) projects are being funded by Japan.
According to the proposal, the revised 31.24km JICA-funded MRT Line-1 project will cost Tk 1,14,394.89 crore.
The revised MRT Line-5 (Northern) project, covering 20km, has a total outlay of Tk 89,848.36 crore.
The newly proposed 17.20km MRT Line-5 (Southern) project, which features a 13.10km underground segment, has an estimated cost of Tk 45,503 crore.
