'Vandalising vehicles': 19 Jamaat men held in Mymensingh
Police arrested 19 Jamaat-e-Islami leaders and activists from different parts of Mymensingh in 24 hours preceding this morning over vandalising vehicles during a procession in the city on July 28.
Mymensingh's Tarakanda upazila Jamaat Ameer Nurul Islam, 40, and Muktagacha upazila Jamaat Secretary Abdullah Mohammad Mujahid, 45, are among the arrestees, reports our local correspondent quoting police.
Mohammad Shah Kamal Akanda, officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station, said a group of Jamaat men brought out a procession in the city on July 28 without permission from police.
They also vandalised vehicles at Natun Bazar intersection at that time, said the OC.
Masud Jamali, sub-inspector of the police station, field a case under Special Powers Act against seven named and 50 unidentified people the same day.
The arrestees were produced before a Mymensingh court this afternoon and police sought five-day remand for each of them.
