Swechchhasebak Dal leader killed ‘by Jubo Dal men’ in N’ganj

A local Swechchhasebak Dal leader was killed following a scuffle reportedly with Jubo Dal men in Narayanganj’s Rupganj upazila yesterday.

The deceased is Azahar Hossain, 47, of the Narabotek area. A CNG-run auto-rickshaw driver by profession, Azahar was a ward unit vice-president of Swechchhasebak Dal in the municipality.

The incident took place around 5:15pm in the Trishkahania area of Kanchan municipality, said Shabzel Hossain, officer-in-charge of Rupganj Police Station.

His son filed a case with Rupganj Police Station today, accusing four people, in connection with the killing.

Police and locals said the accused, all from the same municipality, are activists of Jubo Dal.

As per the case statement, Azahar had a long-standing dispute with the accused. On Friday evening, when he was waiting to join a political event, they attacked him.

He was later taken to a local hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

The OC said they are investigating the matter.

However, no arrests were made till the filing of this report around 8:00pm.
