Govt failed to tackle dengue outbreak
Jatiya Party Chairman GM Quader yesterday said the government cannot avoid responsibility for its failure to effectively control the dengue situation in the country.
Quader, also the deputy leader of the opposition in the parliament, said the government had failed to tackle the ongoing dengue outbreak.
In a statement, he blamed the two city corporations for failing to control Aedes mosquitoes and demanded those responsible for the failure be held accountable.
The JP chairman also demanded that the government ensure proper dengue testing and treatment facilities in all hospitals and medical centres.
"There are no available beds, and dengue patients are being forced to receive medical treatment in balconies, corridors, and even under the stairs," he said.
"Moreover, the shortage of manpower and insufficient government support are hindering the efforts of healthcare professionals to provide adequate treatment," GM Quader added.
He expressed concern about the escalating number of dengue cases and deaths reported daily.
According to government data, the number of infected individuals has reached 66,732 as of August 6, with 313 reported deaths so far.
