Progotishil Gonotrantic Forum, a new political party led by a former BNP leader of Chattogram, was formed today.

Nazim Uddin, former leader of Chattogram north district unit of BNP and vice president of Chittagong University Central Student Union (CUCSU), is the chairman of the party.

CUCSU General Secretary Azim Uddin, of Samajtantrik Chhatra Front, is the general secretary of the new party.

Both leaders formally announced the party at Chattogram Press Club in the port city through a press conference. They however did not disclose how the party will get registration before the national election, slated for January next year.

Nazim claimed that most of the former leaders and activists of BNP joined their new political party.

In a written statement, Nazim said they did not want any conflicting politics in the country that causes vandalism, arson attacks, killings, and hartals.

In response to a question from journalists, Nazim said the formal convention of the new party will be held in Dhaka. A 101-member committee will be announced there.

City BNP Convener Shahadat Hossain told The Daily Star, "This kind of party announcement before the election is part of a conspiracy by the government. There will be no election in this country without BNP. They are trying to confuse the party leaders and workers by doing this, but we are all united."
