BNP probe committee visits Cumilla
A BNP probe committee led by BNP Vice President Barkat Ullah Bulu today visited Cumilla to meet with the leaders and members of Cumilla Hindu Bouddha Christian Oikya Parishad who came under an attack recently during a procession.
During the visit at 11:30am at Thakurpara Kali Mondir premises, the leaders of the parishad were not present, reports our Cumilla correspondent.
The probe committee met with the injured four protesters and compensated them.
On October 13, Jubo League and Chhatra League leaders and activists chased the procession brought out by the Hindu Boudhha Christian Oikya Parishad in Cumilla.
Two Jubo League activists were held over the incident.
One of the injured, Kalipada, said, "Our protest rally was peaceful. We were returning when police intervened in front of Kor Bhaban. But they attacked us from behind."
BNP leader Bulu said, "Cumilla has been a progressive place since the British era. People from here have education and are cultured. We cannot imagine that you [the Hindus] will be attacked in this city. BNP is by your side."
"AL doesn't come to power through election. So they don't need you. For that, they attacked you [the protesters] before the national election," he added.
Bulu said, " BNP's founder President Ziaur Rahman said, we all are Bangladeshis, and there are no minorities here. But they [the ruling party] say you are a minority."
Probe committee member and BNP chairperson's adviser Bijon Kanti Sarker, Barrister Ruhul Kuddus Kajol along with local BNP leaders were present. The committee will submit the report within seven days.
Taposh Kumar Bakshi, general secretary of the council's Cumilla district unit, filed a case against Some 400 to 500 unnamed people following the attack.
