BNP leader Salahuddin arrested in Jatrabari
Detectives arrested BNP's business affairs secretary and former lawmaker Salahuddin Ahmed from the capital's Jatrabari area today.
Confirming Salahuddin's arrest, a top DB official, wishing anonymity, said DB arrested Salahuddin as he is a named FIR accused in four cases filed with Jatrabari.
Salahuddin's son Tanveer Ahmed Robin, also acting member secretary of Dhaka city south BNP, said the driver of his father informed their lawyer over the phone that Salahuddin and three other local BNP leaders were taken to the Minto Road office of the Detective Branch.
"Law enforcers picked up my father and the three local BNP leaders from Hanif Flyover in Jatrabari around 2:00pm. They were passing the area after appearing before the High Court seeking bail in cases filed recently against them," Tanveer told The Daily Star over the phone, quoting their lawyer.
He said the HC fixed Sunday to deliver its order.
According to Tanveer, six cases have been filed against him and five cases against his father in three police stations after BNP's recent sit-in protest. As a result, the police have been conducting raids on their homes and even their relatives' residences in an attempt to arrest them.
They went to the HC yesterday to seek bail in those cases. After appearing before a bench of HC, he left the court area alone while his father and three other BNP leaders left with his father's car.
