Note: The original report, published on February 16, 2026, mentioned that more than 100 employees of Winter Wool Sweater Ltd (Daeyu Bangladesh) joined the demonstration from about 11:30 am. However, Daeyu Bangladesh has notified that it does not have a unit in Gazipur’s Board Bazar area. Based on verification, this report has been corrected.

Garment workers staged a protest march on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway in Gazipur’s Board Bazar on Monday, demanding payment of two months’ overdue wages.

More than 100 employees of Winter Wool Sweater Ltd joined the demonstration from about 11:30am, blocking one side of the busy highway, chanting slogans in demand for their unpaid salaries.

Industrial Police Additional Superintendent Salim Reza said the protest was peaceful and traffic was not completely halted, although vehicles were moving slowly as law enforcement officers were deployed on the scene.

He added that talks between factory management and workers were under way to resolve the dispute.

Gazipur Traffic Police Inspector Tariqul Islam said the agitation created additional pressure at a key intersection, worsening congestion on the route.

Shafiul Alam, president of the Bangladesh Garments and Industrial Workers Federation’s Gazipur metropolitan branch, urged authorities to ensure immediate payment of the workers’ wages and allowances.

He said employees from the factory’s unit 3 facility on Hurricane Road in Gacha had joined the protest.

However, attempts to contact factory authorities for comment remained unsuccessful.

As of 1:00pm local time, police said traffic was still moving slowly due to the disruption.
