Case filed over killing of Rana Pratap in Jashore

A case has been filed with Manirampur Police Station over the killing of journalist and ice factory owner Rana Pratap Bairagi, 38, who was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Jashore's Manirampur upazila on Monday night.

Manirampur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Raziullah Khan said the case was lodged Tuesday afternoon against 10-12 unidentified people, with the victim's father, school teacher Tushar Bairagi, as the complainant.

Police have yet to make any arrests but have intensified efforts to track down those involved.

Rana Pratap was attacked at Kopalia Bazar around 6:30 pm on Monday. Witnesses said the assailants arrived on a motorcycle, called him out of his factory, and took him into a nearby alley before shooting him multiple times in the head. Seven bullet casings were recovered from the scene.

Rana owned an ice factory and was acting editor of BD Khobor, a Narail-based newspaper. He also served as president of the Keshabpur Press Club.
