A Dhaka court today imposed a travel ban on Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, former minister for local government, rural development, and cooperatives, in connection with corruption allegations against him.

Judge Md Zakir Hossain of the Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge's Court passed the order after Anti-Corruption Commission's (ACC) Deputy Director Md Salauddin, who is leading the inquiry, submitted an application seeking the ban.

ACC Public Prosecutor Mir Ahmed Ali Salam represented the anti-graft body in the court.

In the application, the ACC said that Mosharraf allegedly amassed a significant amount of wealth through illegal means and irregularities, both in his name and in the names of his family members, while serving as a minister for rural development and expatriates' welfare & overseas employment.

The ACC official further said that, based on a reliable source, the Awami League lawmaker from Faridpur-3 was attempting to leave the country. If he fled, it could hamper the investigation, the application noted, justifying the need for a travel ban.

The judge also directed the ACC to send the order sheet to the special superintendent of police (immigration) of the Special Branch for necessary action.
