Teenager in Narail tortured to death by husband, family claims

A 16-year-old was tortured to death, allegedly by her husband, in Kalia upazila of Narail yesterday.

The deceased is Labiba Farhana Sraboni, who was married to Hasibur Biswas (20) of Jadavpur village.

Hasibur and his family members are on the run since Sraboni's death, reports our Bagerhat correspondent.

According to relatives of the deceased, Sraboni (16), daughter of Faruk Sheikh of Harikhali village under Khulna's Terokhada upazila, and Hasibur, son of Hemayet Biswas of Jadavpur village under Kaila in Narail, got married with the consent of their families three months back.

Soon after their marriage, the husband started abusing Sraboni physically and mentally over domestic issues.

After Hasibur abused her yesterday afternoon, Sraboni fainted, her family claims. When she was rushed to Narail Sadar Hospital, the doctors declared her dead.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kalia Police Station, Sheikh Koni Mia, said, "The autopsy has been completed. We are investigating the incident."

Sraboni got GPA 5 in this year's SSC examination, family sources said.
