Teacher sent to Panchagarh jail over alleged rape attempt

A Panchagarh court this afternoon sent a school teacher to jail after he allegedly attempted to rape a ninth-grader yesterday.

The accused, Mostafizur Rahman, 32, is an assistant lecturer at a local high school.

Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate SM Shafiqul Islam passed the order when he was produced before the court this afternoon, said Court Inspector Khan Md Shahriar.

Yesterday afternoon, locals caught the teacher from his rented house at Masjidpara area of Panchagarh municipality while he was allegedly attempting to rape the girl after a tutoring session.

The accused was brought to the Deputy Commissioner's office after a beating, where police took the teacher into custody, said Panchagarh Sadar Police Station Inspector (Investigation) HSM Sohrab Hossain.

The victim's father filed a case with Panchagarh Police Station in this regard yesterday.

While being taken into police custody, the teacher denied the allegations.
