Smuggling gold: One held with 10 gold bars in Benapole

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh have arrested a man along with 10 gold bars weighing one kg at Shymalgachi area in Benapole while smuggling those to India.

The arrestee was identified as Ismail Hossain (38), son of Abdul Jabbar Miah, of Namajgram under Benapole Port Police Station, reports our local correspondent quoting Lt Cornel Shahed Minhaj Siddique, captain of BGB Battalion-49 of Jashore.

On secret information, a Benapole-bound motorcyclist was intercepted at Shymalgachi area, he said.

After searching his body, 10 gold bars were seized, added the BGB official.

He was smuggling the gold bars to India through Jhikargacha's Laojani rail gate, the official said, adding that the arrestee was involved in the gold smuggling for a long period of time.

A case was filed with Sharsha Police Station in this regard, added the BGB man.
