Man arrested with 3.6kg gold in Chuadanga

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested a man at the Sultana border in Damurhuda upazila of Chuadanga this afternoon with 16 gold bars weighing 3.6 kg.

The arrestee is Afsar Ali, 28, of Jhajhadanga village in the same upazila, said Lt Col Md Nazmul Hasan, commander of Chuadanga 6-BGB, in a press release sent to the media.

The BGB said, on information that a consignment of gold was being smuggled to India through the Sultanpur border area, a team of the BGB intercepted Afsar on the road near Chaighariya Primary School in the afternoon and arrested him.

Later, the team discovered 16 gold bars worth Tk 3.78 crore from him, said the BGB official.

A case has been filed against Afsar at Darshana Police Station.

The process of depositing the seized gold bars at the Chuadanga Treasury Office is currently underway, the press release reads.
