Human chain demands arrest of culprits over attack on doctor in Bogura

A human chain today demanded the arrest of culprits who physically assaulted Dr Shafik Amin Kajol, resident medical officer of the Bogura Mohammad Ali hospital at his home on August 10.

The human chain was formed in front of Mohammad Ali hospital around 11:00 am today where staff members including doctors and nurses of the hospital took part, reports our Bogura correspondent.

Speakers at the program expressed their anger over the attack on Kajol and said the attack was carried out under the leadership of a police inspector who has not been arrested yet. 

"We demand his immediate arrest or else we will announce tougher programs," they said.

According to the case filed on August 11, on the evening of August 10, five to seven men with three motorcycles attacked Dr Kajol in front of his residence. The attackers demanded ownership of a piece of land that has eight shops located at the Aatmul Bazar under Shibganj upazila registered under Kajol's father's name.

They also demanded Tk five lakh as toll money if he retains the ownership of the land. When Kajol protested, the attackers snatched his mobile phone and punched him while verbally abusing him.

"Among the attackers, Monir Hossain (52) identified himself as a police inspector. During the attack, locals detained three people, Abu Bokkor Siddik (32), Harun-or Rashid (45) and Nazmus Sakib, and handed them over to Bogura Sadar Police Station. However, Monir Hossain and one other unnamed accused managed to flee the scene, said Dr Kajol said.

When contacted, Fazle Elahi, sub-inspector of the Upashahar Police Outpost under the Sadar Police Station said, "We are trying to arrest Monir. According to family members of the accused, Monir was a police inspector and recently retired."
