Five held on rape charges

A teenager, who is accused in a gang rape case, was arrested in Raipura upazila of Narsingdi early yesterday.

The teenager and four others were allegedly involved in the rape of a fifth-grader girl.

Meanwhile, the law enforcers arrested three people in Dinajpur and Rangpur on rape charges and a 13-year-old boy in Thakurgaon for attempting to rape a four-year-old girl.

Father of the Narsingdi rape victim filed a case accusing five persons with Raipura Police Station on Tuesday night, said Sub-inspector Deb Dulal Dey.

The SI said police arrested a boy, 15, in this connection early yesterday.

The rape incident took place in Raipura upazila on Monday afternoon.

SI Deb Dulal said the boy and four others were involved in the incident.

Citing the case statement, the SI said a maternal cousin of the victim took her to an abandoned poultry farm.

There, the cousin and four of his accomplices raped the girl.

This paper could not mention the names of the arrested boy and the cousin as they are below 18 years.

According to the victim's father, the cousin called the girl and blindfolded her and tortured her along with his accomplices. At that time, the girl recognised the two.

Contacted, Officer-in-charge of Raipura Police Station Golam Mostafa told The Daily Star that police would investigate the allegations.

Police were also trying to arrest the other accused.

In Dinajpur, police arrested Jiten Roy, 38, for raping a speech-impaired girl.

Jiten, of Arjunpara village in Khansama upazila, entered the house of the 19-year-old speech-impaired girl and raped her when she was home alone on August 14 afternoon, said Kamal Hossain, officer-in-charge of Khansama Police Station, quoting the case statement.

Later, the victim's mother filed a case against Jiten with Khansama Police Station on Wednesday, the OC said.

In Rangpur city, a team of Rab-13 on Tuesday arrested Shamim Mia, who is an accused in a gang rape case, filed with Mithapukur Police Station on July 15.

Another team of Rab-13 arrested Sukur Ali from the Ansar Camp area in Joypurhat on Tuesday night.

He was accused in a rape case filed with Hatibandha Police Station on July 25, said Rab officials in Rangpur.

The arrestees were handed over to the respective police stations yesterday.

In Thakurgaon Sadar upazila, police held a 13-year-old boy yesterday morning on charge of attempted rape of a four-year-old girl.

Judge of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Golam Faruk sent the boy to Jashore Juvenile Development Centre when he was produced before the court, said Court Inspector Jahangir Hossain.

The teenage boy took his neighbour's baby girl to his room and tried to rape her. As she screamed, the boy made her free and left the house.

After returning home, the girl informed her mother of the incident.

The victim's father filed a case with Thakurgaon Police Station yesterday  morning accusing the boy and later police arrested him from his house.
