DSA Case: Journos won’t be arrested just after its filing

Journalists will not be arrested immediately after a Digital Security Act case is filed against them, said Law Minister Anisul Huq yesterday.

Police will not record a case under the DSA straight away, he told reporters at his Secretariat office.

The filing of the case will be subject to satisfaction of a cell, earlier created for Information and Communication Technology Act.

Huq has spoken to the home minister on the matter and his counterpart has replied in the positive.

Action will be taken against those who misuse or abuse the Digital Security Act.

The minister claimed that the act was not formulated to curb the freedom of expression and the freedom of the press.

The DSA was passed in the parliament on September 19, 2018. The journalist community has since been protesting it and demanding that several sections be amended to safeguard the freedom of the press.
