Cox’s Bazar tourist rape: Key accused Joy arrested

Police today arrested another key accused in a case filed over the rape of a tourist in Cox's Bazar.

The accused, Israfil Huda Joy, was arrested from Chakaria Bus Stand area of the district early this morning. Additional DIG of Cox's Bazar Tourist Police Mohammad Muslim Uddin revealed the information at a press conference held at its office today.

With the latest one, a total of six persons were arrested so far in connection with the incident. Tourist police is probing the case.

"We are investigating the case with highest importance. We are working to bring all the culprits to book. We will produce the accused Joy before the court tomorrow and will seek remand," he said.

He further said that the process of bringing Ashiqul Islam Ashiq, the main accused in the case, arrested by RAB in Madaripur, from Dhaka to Cox's Bazar has started.

Three men raped the woman while their cohorts took her husband and child hostage on Wednesday evening.

The woman, her husband, and their eight-month-old child went to Cox's Bazar on holiday on Wednesday morning from the capital, according to the case documents.

On Thursday night, seven people were made accused in the rape case filed.
