The ACC will inquire into the allegation of amassing illegal wealth by former IG Prisons Brig Gen (retd) Syed Iftekhar Uddin, who was quizzed over corruption at Chattogram Central Jail two years ago.

ACC has already appointed an assistant director, Director General Syeed Mahbub Khan said yesterday. ACC made the decision on Thursday.

ACC quizzed Iftekhar, who served as IG prisons between 2013 and 2018, on August 25, 2019.

On October 26 in 2018, Railway Police arrested Sohel Rana Biswas, a jailer of Chattogram jail, with Tk 44 lakh, documents of fixed deposit accounts worth Tk 2.5 crore, and cheques for Tk 1.3 crore, and 12 bottles of Phensedyl. There are allegations that Iftekhar was aware of his track record but appointed him as a jailer.

Meanwhile, ACC has decided launch a probe against Mirza Abbas over purchasing about 150 katha of land in Khilgaon and 50-60 katha in Gulshan and Banani.
