12 Rohingyas among 14 held with 3.96 lakh yaba

Rab arrested 14 persons including 12 Rohingyas with 3.96 lakh yaba pills and a fishing boat from the river Karnaphuli in Chattogram early yesterday.

Rab officials said the contraband yaba tablets were being smuggled from Myanmar.

The arrestees are Abul Kalam (27), Abul Fayez (50), Monir Hossain (45), Alam (41), Rafiq (29), Yahia (28), Dil Mohammed (23), Mojibur Rahman (19), Abdul Majid (28), Tarek (19), Hossen (42), Basir Ahmed (22), Monjur Alam (19), and Ekram Ullah (19).

Among them, Abul Kalam and Fayez are

Bangladeshis and owners of the fishing boat. The rest are Rohingyas working as boat crew on a daily basis.

While addressing a press briefing at Rab-7 Headquarters in Patenga,  Commanding Officer MA Yousuf said, "Tipped off, a team of Rab started patrolling in the Karnaphuli and intercepted the boat 'MV Mahin' which was coming from the outer anchorage."
