Two people were killed in separate road accidents in Dhaka’s Jatrabari and Demra areas late on Saturday night, police said.

The identities of both victims remain unknown.

In Jatrabari, a truck ran over a boy, aged around 13 years and believed to be a street child who collected scrap for a living, around 11:00pm in front of Dania College.

The boy was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead, said Imran Hossain, a sub-inspector of Jatrabari Police Station.

In Demra, a speeding human-haulier, locally known as leguna, hit a battery-run rickshaw, which then hit a van and threw its driver off the Staff Quarter Bridge. Critically injured, the unidentified van driver, aged around 40 years, was rushed to DMCH where doctors pronounced him dead.

Both bodies have been sent to the DMCH morgue for autopsy, said Inspector Md Farouk of DMCH police outpost.
