Lions Dist 315-B4 installation held
The first cabinet meeting and installation ceremony of the cabinet members of Lions District 315-B4 was held at a hotel in the port city on Saturday. Former International Lions Director Kabir Hossain was the chief guest at the programmes while Lions Club International Council Chairperson PK Roy was the special guest. Immediate Past District Governor Mohammad Kabir Uddin Bhuiyan presided over the first session while the newly elected Governor SM Ishaq chaired the second session. Speakers in the programmes said members of the organisation have been playing an important role in spreading principles of humanity across the globe. The organisation is not only standing beside the distressed or disaster-affected people, they also participate in different social awareness building activities, they said. Former District Governor and International Director Kazi Akram Uddin Ahmed, Cabinet Secretary Prasun Kumar Barua, Treasurer Jahangir Alam, Joint Secretary Mahbubur Alam, Joint Treasurer Mohammad Kamal Uddin and Lady Governor Rahimunnesa Ishaq were present at the programmes. A farewell reception was accorded to the students who successfully passed the SSC examinations this year from Foujderhat KM High School on Sunday. The School Golden Jubilee Celebration Council organised the reception. Speakers at a dialogue said the development of the reproductive heath of the female garment workers is related to the economic development of the country. They said 90 percent of around 25 lakh garment workers are women and their reproductive health should be considered from the social responsibility. They were addressing a policy dialogue on “Reproductive Heath of the Garment Workers” jointly organised by Bangladesh Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) and United Nations Fund for Population Activities (UNFPA) at a hotel in the port city on Saturday. Chittagong Divisional Commissioner Hussain Jamil was the chief guest in the dialogue while UNFPA Bangladesh Assistant Representative Mohammad Nurul Amin presented the keynote paper on “Reproductive Rights, Health and Gender Situation of Garments Workers.” BGMEA First Vice President MA Salam moderated the dialogue while the organisation Chittagong Region Welfare, Healthcare and Family Planning Affairs Standing Committee Chairman Mohammad Emdadul Haque Chowdhury, workers' leader Nazim Uddin and Shafar Ali and Chittagong Maa O Shishu Hospital General Secretary Dr Anjuman Ara Islam took part in the discussion. 'Substandard cylinders cause explosion'
Leaders of Chittagong CNG Filling Station and Conversion Owners' Association said the substandard apparatus and cylinders and conversion at the unauthorised centres are mostly responsible for cylinder explosion. The importers who import substandard conversion equipment and supply those to the unauthorised conversion centre are equally responsible for the accidents, they said. They were addressing the Members' Council-2008 at Hotel Agrabad on Friday with its President Riad Ali in the chair. They sought cooperation from the law enforcement agencies in this regard and urged the vehicle owners not to convert their vehicles at the unauthorised centres and to examine the cylinders every five years. Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) seized illegal Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) equipment worth around Tk 3 lakh from a house in Nasirabad area in the port city on Saturday. Acting on a tip-off, a team of Rab-7 Chittagong raided Taher Mansion at around 12:15am and found VoIP equipment at the rooftop of the building in an abandoned condition, sources said. The equipment include a quantum, a CPU, a monitor, 16 tellular sets, a UPS and an IPS. A case was filed with the concerned Khulshi police station in this connection. Training for TV journos ends
A two-day training workshop for developing the professional efficiency of working journalists of electronic media was concluded here on Saturday. Chittagong Press Club organised the workshop in cooperation with the Human Mobility at the Club auditorium. Former head of news of private television channel RTV Syed Ishtiaque Reza was the key speaker in the workshop while former Special Correspondent of ATN Bangla Sohel Mahmud and Ntv Senior ENG Cameraman M Wahiduzzaman put on different aspects of the electronic journalism. A total of 18 working television journalists took part in the workshop while Bangladesh GSA Flight Link Limited of Bahrain Air was the sponsor of the workshop.
