Fighting Human Trafficking
Cops need training
Workshop told
Training law enforcers on the Human Trafficking Deterrence and Suppression Act 2012 is needed to better handle trafficking victims, said speakers at a workshop.
Enacted in last February, the law is still not implemented due to lack of transparency in the government's administration, they said.
Bangladesh National Women Lawyers' Association (BNWLA), with the support of International Organisation for Migration, organised the workshop titled “Human Trafficking Deterrence and Suppression Act 2012: Challenges and Recommendations†at a hotel in the capital yesterday.
“Sometimes police do not even file the case because the victim cannot come up with the name of the trafficker. We have to make the police and public prosecutors accountable,†said BNWLA Executive Director Salma Ali .
Criminal Investigation Department Additional DIG Md Shah Alam said building up women and child friendly manpower in police is necessary.
