Interns at Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College and Hospital yesterday went on strike for two hours everyday to press home their four-point demand, including immediate arrest of the culprits who attacked their fellows on Monday. The strike, which started from 10:00am, caused immense sufferings to the patient. Hospital sources said at least eight people, including six doctors, were injured in a clash following the death of a patient at the hospital on Monday night. The injured include physicians Mithu, Partha Protim Chakroborty, Nazmul Alam, Tanmoy Barua, Ayesha Siddiki and Ratan Dhali. After the incident, interns enforced the strike, the sources said. They said that Joynul Abedin, 75, of Rajapur upazila in Jhalakathi district, was admitted to the hospital with brain hemorrhage at about 7:00am on Monday. He died under treatment at about 4:00pm. As the death news spread, aggrieved relatives of Joynul attacked the on-duty doctors alleging that the patient died due to negligence of the physicians. They also went on rampage at the hospital.
