7 fishermen kidnapped for ransom in Hatiya
Armed robbers kidnapped seven fishermen from Majhir Khal (canal) under Hatiya upazila of the district early yesterday.
They are Mahi Uddin, 28, Shamsuddin, 23, Masud, 25, Miraj, 20, Rubel, 20, Sumon, 22, and Sujan, 16.
Local fishermen said a gang of 10 to 12 robbers of Emran 'Bahini' attacked five trawlers on the canal in the morning and abducted the fishermen for ransom. They gang also took away the trawlers, they added.
Altaf Majhi, one of the trawler owners, said the gang demanded a ransom of Tk 5 lakh for release of the seven fishermen.
Contacted, acting Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mokthar Hossain of Hatiya Police Station said he was not aware of such incident.
