Markets declared formalin-free in two districts
Satkhira Sultanpur Boro Bazar has been declared as the only formalin-free market in the district.
Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Anwar Hossain Hawladar made the declaration at a discussion on the effects of formalin and poisonous carbide and food adulteration in the town on Thursday.
Speaking as chief guest, the DC said a number of fish sellers often used formalin for short term gain, causing serious health hazards to people instead.
He also urged the traders to keep away from using such malpractice considering the health condition of commoners.
Among others, Additional District Magistrate Hamim Hasan, ASP Sajjadur Rahman, and Sheikh Nurul Haque, secretary of Red Crescent Society, Satkhira, were present at the function.
Away in Khagrachhari, the municipality authorities at a function declared the town formalin-free on Wednesday.
M Masud Karim, deputy commissioner, came up with the declaration as special step as part of the municipality's ongoing beautification activities, reports UNB.
He set a number of formalin detector machines at various points of the town.
A planned town is to be built for a standard living and this is why it is very much necessary to ensure unadulterated food and safe beauty and cleanliness of the town, said the DC at the programme.
