People across the country continued demonstration yesterday demanding capital punishment to Jamaat-e-Islami leader Abdul Quader Mollah and others responsible for crimes against humanity during the 1971 Liberation War. The demonstrators at Shibbari intersection in Khulna city continued their sit-in for the fourth day yesterday demanding capital punishment to the war criminals, reports our Khulna correspondent. Hundreds of students as well as common people under the banner of 'Nirdoliya Ganomoncha' (non-party platform of people) started the day's programme in the morning when people from different parts of the city were seen proceeding towards Shibbari intersection. Professionals and different organisations also joined the programme to express their support. The agitators also hung the portraits of war criminals. Demanding capital punishment to notorious criminal Abdul Quader Mollah, demonstrators started a sit-in at Shibbari intersection on Wednesday morning. Earlier on Tuesday, the International Crimes Tribunal-2 sentenced Jamaat-e-Islami leader Abdul Quader Mollah to life term imprisonment for his crimes against humanity during the Liberation War. Meanwhile, students at a press conference yesterday noon vowed to continue their demonstration until the announcement of death sentence for the Jamaat leader. They also vowed to free the country from Razakars (collaborators of the Pakistan occupation army in 1971). Earlier, the protesters urged the correspondents of daily Amar Desh and Diganta TV to leave the place as the two media did not properly report the programmes. Our Magura correspondent reports: Freedom fighters, students and general people took to the streets in the district town yesterday demanding capital punishment to the war criminals. Freedom fighters from four upazilas of the district gathered at Chourangi square in Magura town at around 10:00am. They held rally and formed a human chain to press for the demand. Freedom fighter Molla Nabuat Ali, commander of the district unit of Muktijoddha Sangsad, conducted an oath at the gathering where participants pledged to continue their movement demanding capital punishment of all the war criminals including Jamaat leader Abdul Quader Mollah. The freedom fighters also demanded punishment to Jamaat-e-Islami and their student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir who committed 'crime of sedition' by threatening with a civil war in the country. Students of different educational institutions in Magura town for the second consecutive day yesterday gathered in front of Hossain Shaheed Suhrawardy Government College and chanted slogans demanding death penalty to all war criminals. Biswajit Chakrabarti, general secretary of Magura district unit of Udichi Shilpi Goshthi, conducted an oath there to boycott academic, business and cultural organisations run by the war criminals and their patrons. They also promised to boycott mass media like Diganta TV, The Naya Diganta, the daily Amar Desh, and the daily Sangram. Our Barisal correspondent adds: A rally of 'Ekatturer Mancha' in front of Ashwini Kumar Hall in the city saw spontaneous participation of people yesterday afternoon, demanding capital punishment of all war criminals. Singing of the national anthem and patriotic songs, recitation of poems, paintings, staging of dramas, chanting of slogans demanding capital punishment of 1971 war criminals marked the programme organised by 'Bloggers and Online Activists' Network'. A good number of freedom fighters and cultural activists joined the programme. Leaders of different socio-political-cultural-professional organisations attended the programmes and expressed solidarity with the demands of the organisers. They also announced their solidarity with all programmes declared from the grand rally at Shahbagh Square in the capital. Similar programmes were also held in different districts including Bagerhat and Madaripur.
