AL, BNP clash leaves 12 hurt
At least 12 people were injured during a clash between the activists of Awami League and BNP in Charfession upazilla yesterday.
Local unit of Awami League brought out a procession at South Aicha in the upazila at around 10:30am demanding capital punishment for Abdul Quader Mollah and other war criminals. At one stage, BNP activists equipped with lethal weapons swooped on the procession, prompting the AL men to retaliate.
At least 12 people from both sides were injured during the clash that continued for an hour from 11:00am. BNP activist also vandalised several houses and shops of Awami Leauge activists in the area.
Of the injured, Awami League Leader Gias Uddin was admitted to the upazila health complex and then shifted to Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital while the rest were given first aid at the heath complex.
Being informed, police rushed to the spot, dispersed the clashing groups and brought the situation under control.
