A Pabna court yesterday granted regular bail to Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas, personal assistant to BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, in Milon Hossain murder case. Shimul Biswas, also central join secretary of Bangladesh Transport Workers Federation, appeared before the Cognisance Court-1 at around 11:00am and sought permanent bail. “We have submitted the order of the High Court on anticipatory bail to the court, seeking Biswas' permanent bail. After hearing, the court granted bail to him.” said advocate Masud Khondaker, counsel for Shimul Biswas. BNP activist Milon was killed over intra-party feud in the town on September 24. Mohammad Bachchu Miah, nephew of the slain BNP activist, filed a murder case with Pabna Police Station the following day against Shimul Biswas and 22 other BNP men. Biswas got anticipatory bail from the High Court on September 26, court sources said. His supporters held a rally in front of his residence at Gopalpur in the district town yesterday noon. Chaired by BNP district unit President KS Mahamud, the rally was addressed, among others, by Shimul Biswas, BNP leader Ruhul Kuddus Talukder Dulu, Habibur Rahman Habib, and district BNP General Secretary Habibur Rahman Tota. The speakers branded the rival faction of the district BNP as agent of the ruling party. “A few expelled leaders are trying to harass the district BNP men by filing false cases,” the speakers said. They urged the district BNP leaders and activists to stay united against all conspiracies and intensify the ongoing movement for restoration of the caretaker government system to hold free, fair and impartial general elections in the country.
