Teacher murdered in Moulvibazar
Manipuri community leader and primary school teacher Rabindra Kumar Sinha, 40, of Komolganj upazila in Moulvibazar district was shot dead at about 10:00pm Tuesday.
Brother of the deceased Roben Sinha said, three people coming by a motorbike intercepted his auto-rickshaw near his house at village Kalarbil when he along with his family members was returning home after visiting Ranibazar puja mandap.
Rabindra and others got down from the auto-rickshaw and tried to flee the scene. But the attackers shot in his chest before leaving the area.
Seriously injured, he was rushed to the upazila health complex, where the doctors declared him dead.
Police recovered the body and sent it to the Moulvibazar Sadar hospital for postmortem.
Officer in-charge of Komolganj police station Abul Kalam Azad said, they are yet to ascertain the motive behind the killing. However, police have arrested auto-rickshaw driver Abdus Salam, as a suspect.
Rabindra was the acting headmaster of Baghhachhara Government Primary School of Komolganj upazila.
Meanwhile, members of Manipuri community in the upazila suspended all the puja celebration to protest killing of Rabindra, who was also general secretary of Hojat Dalua, a youth organisation of the community.
Wearing black badges, the primary teachers also organised a protest rally in the town yesterday afternoon, demanding immediate arrest and punishment of the killers.
At the rally, they announced an agitation programme on 30 October. The programme includes human chain, wearing black badge, mourning procession and giving memo to the Upazila Nirbahi Officer and police officials on the day.
