New terminal at Mawa starts operation
A new ferry terminal started its operation yesterday hours after an alternative ferry terminal was closed at Mawa in the district.
Ferry services through Hrishibari ghat started at around 6:30pm, said the officials.
Earlier, operation of the alternative ferry terminal came to a halt yesterday morning as its pontoon was badly damaged when a ferry hit the terminal.
The terminal was inaugurated at Mawa intersection at about 7:00pm on Saturday after Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) suspended ferry service of all the terminals due to erosion in Padma.
Ferry service through the terminal was halted around 11:30 am, said Sirajul Haque, manager of BIWTC, Mawa.
