Absconding accused Mir Alam held in Faridpur
Police arrested one of the accused in Rajbari BNP leader SM Shamsul Alam Bablu murder case from Faridpur district on Wednesday night.
The arrestee was identified as Mir Alam Babu, 35. Mir Alam is younger brother of prime accused Mir Enam Ali Bachchu, the incumbent councilor of Rajbari municipality.
Sahab Uddin Khalifia, officer in-charge (OC) of Rajbari Sadar police station told this correspondent that police raided the house of Mir Alam's father-in-law at Bonsardi village in Nagarkandi upazila of Faridpur at about 3:30am on an information that Mir Alam was hiding there.
Mir Alam remained absconded since the murder took place on August 24.
Police said, a gang led by the two accused opened fire on Bablu around 1:30am when he was returning to his home in Binodpur area in the town from Rajbari bazar.
Bablu was a former convener of Rajbari district unit of Jubo Dal, the youth front of BNP, and also a member of Rajbari district unit BNP.
Prime accused Enam is also former Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal Rajbari district joint convener and now a member of district BNP.
According to sources, Bablu was a victim of an intra-party feud between Ali Newaz Mohammad Khayiam, former lawmaker of Rajbari-1, also the president of Rajbari district unit BNP and Harunur Rashid, general secretary of the unit.
Bablu belonged to Khayiam group and he had a rivalry with a group of JCD and Jubo Dal men of the district led by Mir Enam Ali Bachchu.
Soon after the murder, police arrested one Arif Biswas, a BNP cadre of the district. Twelve people were sued including Bachchu and his bother Mir Alam.
“We have investigated the matter on the basis of information extracted from Arif and the clues to the case are now almost clear,” OC Sahab Uddin Khalifa told this correspondent over cell phone yesterday.
Charge sheet in the case will be submitted soon, the OC said.
