The committee formed to investigate the 22 September clash between indigenous people and Bangali settlers in the district town has identified nine people who allegedly fuelled the brawl. The disclosure was made at a press briefing in the town yesterday. Among others, Dr. Mostafizur Rahman, head of committee, was present. However, the details of the identified persons were not disclosed at the briefing for the sake of legal steps in this connection. More than 20 people, including a union parishad chairman and a sub-inspector, were injured in the clash that erupted on Rangamati Government College campus. On September 19, an altercation took place between first year student Md Hasan alias Badsha and classmate Pinkel Chakma over sitting in a college bus, said Motafizur. The altercation soon turned into clashes between the two communities in the area. The situation deteriorated as the clash spread outside the college and to areas like Banarupa, Kanthaltoli and Rajbari. Later, a three-member probe committee was formed as per the directive from State Minister for CHT Affairs Dipankar Talukder.
