Indigenous leader allegedly tries to commit suicide
A leader of indigenous people allegedly attempted to commit suicide at Bhimpur village in Mohadebpur upazila of Naogaon district on Friday.
Locals rushed Rebeca Soren, president of Bangladesh Adivasi Union, an indigenous people wing of CPB, to Naogaon Sadar Hospital. Rebecca is also the plaintiff of indigenous leader Alfred Soren murder case.
She is now out of danger, said Abdur Rashid, officer in-charge at Mohadebpur police station.
Rebeca was taking preparation to join the congress of Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) in Dhaka on Wednesday. But her husband Shreebal Barman allegedly asked her not to attend the congress and hurled abuses at her.
Rebeca quarreled with Shreebal over the issue on Friday afternoon and later tried to kill herself by taking poison.
Shreebal went into hiding, said the OC.
