Over 1000 families marooned as flood hits Khagrachhari
Heavy downpour for the last few days and on-rush of hill waters inundated vast areas of Dighinala upazila of the district, leaving over 1000 families marooned.
Locals said, floodwaters submerged Chhoto Merung, Boro Merung, Gulchhori, Hajasora, Lomba Sora, Rankarja villages of Merung union and Dakshin Milonpur area of Kobakhali union of the upazila.
Standing crops, vegetables went under water and over 100 houses were damaged by the flood.
The flood affected people took shelter in two local schools and houses of their relatives.
Roads in Chhotomerung bazaar and adjacent areas went under water disrupting road communications of Longu with the upazila headquarters.
Merung Sadar block deputy assistant agriculture officer Md Humayun Kabir said T-Aman and vegetables on 600 acres of land of eight blocks in Merung union were damaged due to the flood.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer PKM Enamul Karim visited the flood affected areas and said they have sent a list of the flood victims to the deputy commissioner's office for relief.
