Six get life for murder in Dinajpur
A Dinajpur court yesterday sentenced six people to life imprisonment for killing a man in 2006.
The convicts are Sumon, Syamol and Sabuj, sons of Mazammel Hossain of Bhatpara village, Kajal, son of Ahsan of Dinajpur Satellite town, Biplob, son of Idris Ali of Khalpara Municipality, and Abdur Razzak Ratan, son of Abdus Sobhan of Dakkhin Balubari under Dinajpur Sadar upazila.
The court also fined themTk.5,000 each, in default they are to suffer another year in jail. Judge Golam Ahamed Khalilur Rahman of the Special Judge's Court, Dinajpur, pronounced the verdict in the afternoon.
According to the prosecution, Shah Alam Babu, 35, of Power house area in the town was murdered in front of Dinajpur Medical College and Hospital on September 7 in 2006.
His father filed a case with Dinajpur Sadar Police Station the same day accusing eight people. After investigation, police pressed charges against eight people.
The court also acquitted two others as charges brought against them could not be proved.
In Sylhet, a court here on Tuesday sentenced a man to life imprisonment for killing his daughter eight years ago.
The convict is Layek Ahmed, 45, of Khojarkhola village under South Surma upazila. The court also fined him Tk 10,000, in default he is suffer one year more in jail, reports UNB.
According to the prosecution, Layek threw his four-year old daughter, Lima Akhter into the Surma River following an altercation with his wife Nasima Begum on July 22, 2004. The body was found floating near Mistri Masjid the following day.
Police arrested Layek after his wife filed a case against three people, including her husband. After investigation, police submitted a charge sheet to the court only against Layek.
Sylhet divisional Special Judge Sufia Begum handed down the verdict.
