Saved from a Social Curse

Class VI student Anjana Badoi of Pirerbari village in Kotalipara upazila under Gopalganj district was saved from early marriage on Monday as activists of non-governmental organisation Jagoroni assisted by conscious people of the area persuaded her guardians to move away from the decision to marry off the girl until she reached 18 years of age. However, early marriage is still a common practice among a large section of the country's population, especially in the rural areas, as International Day of the Girl Child (observed on October 11 every year) hardly makes any impact on the uneducated masses.Photo: STAR
