RCC polls by December 25: CEC
Election to the newly formed Rangpur City Corporation (RCC) will be held by December 25 this year, said Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad yesterday. "Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) will be used in some polling centres," he said. The CEC was addressing a workshop at Begum Rokeya Auditorium of Rangpur Dinajpur Rural Services (RDRS) in the city. Strengthening Election Commission Management in Bangladesh organised the workshop. Seeking cooperation from local administration and people, Kazi Rakibuddin said the task of holding a free, fair and neutral election was not possible for the commission alone. The CEC also said that the by-election in Kapasia was held in free, fair and peaceful manner. “There were many domestic and international observers during the election. None of them alleged of any manipulation in the election”, he said. Among others, deputy commissioner (in-charge) Zakir Hossain and joint secretary to the EC Secretariat Jesmin Tuli were present at the programme.
