The two-day silver jubilee celebration programme of Haji Cherag Ali College at Pajlarchar in Trishal upazila concluded yesterday. Yesterday's programme included a discussion and a cultural show. Earlier, the college was colourfully illuminated to mark the celebrations. A souvenir was also published. The college was established on May 6, 1987. Advocate Reza Ali, MP from Trishal was the chief guest at the discussion meeting yesterday. Editor and publisher of The Daily Star Mahfuz Anam, director of FBCCI Md. Aminul Haque Shamim, chairman of Trishal upazila parishad AN Shuva Miah Akanda, chairman of Trishal municipality ABM Anusizzaman, eminent businessmen Muslem Uddin, Shah Alam, Sadiqur Rahman Hiru, Subodh Chandra Mahapatra and principal of the college Gautam Kumar Sengupta took part in the discussion. President of college governing body Alhaj Abul Kalam presided while Shima Dutt, a lecturer of Bengali Department presented the programme. The speakers at the discussion meeting said due to a noble initiative by the generous people of the locality the college was set up 25 years ago. Today it has become a beacon of education for the people of this locality, they said. Praising the performance of the college in the last 25 years, the speakers also stressed the need for extending further support to ensure its glorious journey. Now the people, especially the poor of the locality and adjacent areas can easily educate their kids at the college, as earlier they had little scope to send their wards to upazila or district headquarters, the speakers added. The chief guest said he would take an initiative to construct the road leading to the college to ease the communication. Move for a multi-storied building for better accommodation of the students will also be taken, he said. The day-long programme was rounded off with a cultural show performed by artistes from Dhaka which enthralled the audience.
