Shimul's relative now sues Pabna mayor, 23 others
Pabna municipality Mayor Kamrul Hassan Mintu and 23 other BNP leaders and activists have been sued on charge of attacking the procession of Pabna district unit BNP on Monday when a bloody clash between two rival factions of the party left one killed and 20 others injured.
Faridul Islam Dalu, panel mayor of Pabna municipality, Siddikur Rahman Siddique, secretary of Pabna municipality unit BNP, and 21 other BNP activists -- all followers of Mayor Kamrul, are other accused in the case filed by Pabna district unit BNP member Borzahan Bishwas on Friday, police said.
Complainant Borzahan is also cousin of Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas, personal assistant to BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia.
"The complainant claimed that the accused people attacked a procession of Pabna district unit BNP on September 24, leaving their activists injured. We have recorded the case under the Speedy Trial Act. The accused are absconding. Police are trying to arrest them,” said Nure Alam, officer in charge (Investigation) of Pabna police station.
“The case has been filed following instruction from the senior leaders. It has been filed late as our activists were injured in the clash and we were busy for their treatment,” said complainant Borzahan Biswas.
Siddikur Rahman Siddique, secretary of Pabna municipality unit BNP, said, "This is a false and politically motivated case and has been filed to harass us."
BNP activist Milon Hossain was killed and 20 others were injured as the Pabna district unit BNP led by its president KS Mahmud and general secretary Habibur Rahman Tota and its rival faction led by Kamrul Hassan Mintu and Siddikur Rahman Siddique got locked in a clash on Friday.
Earlier police filed two cases against the district unit BNP leaders and activists in connection with the incident while the slain BNP man's family filed a murder case against Shimul Bishwas, Mahmud, Tota and 21 other BNP leaders in the district on Tuesday.
Police earlier arrested Mahmud and Tota in connection with the incident.
