Torture of the harshest kind on a six-year-old girl has surpassed medieval cruelty at Radakantopur village in Sonatola upazila. Zinia Akter is now being treated at Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital with the left leg that was cut off allegedly by her neighbour on Tuesday. Police said Zinia, daughter of Zihadul Islam of the village, picked a quarrel with one Jim Khatun, 7, daughter of Jamsed Ali over a trivial matter a few days ago. Later, the families of the duo locked in an altercation over the issue. As a sequel to the feud, Jamsed took the girl out of her house on Tuesday night and cut off her leg from the ankle joint at a nearby place when the family members were asleep. Hearing the hue and cry, they rushed to the spot, rescued Zinia and sent her to the hospital, said Zihadul. Police on Wednesday arrested Jamsed in connection with the incident, said Khalequzzaman, officer in-charge at Sonatola police station. “An attempted murder case was filed against the arrestee”, said the OC.
