Arms seized in 3 districts, 4 'peddlers' held

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) and DB police on Tuesday arrested four youths along with arms and bullets in Chapainawabganj, Bogra and Jhenidah districts. In Chapainawabganj, the Rab members arrested two alleged arms peddlers in Monakasha Bazar area in Shibganj upazila at night, reports our correspondent. The arrestees are Saddam Hossain alias Sohel Rana, 26, son of Azizul Haque of Parchouka village, and Basir alias Bishu, 22, son of Torab Ali, of the same area. Acting on a tip-off, a Rab-5 team from Railway Colony camp in Rajshahi raided the area at about 8pm and arrested the two youths. The elite force later recovered two USA made pistols and 11 bullets from their possession. Earlier Rab and BGB in separate drives in Parchouka and Monakasha recovered two pistols, 9 bullets, three magazines and arrested an alleged arms peddler early Monday. In Bogra, Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested a young man along with a foreign made pistol and six bullets in Kornapur area of the district town on Tuesday evening, reports UNB. The arrestee was identified as Aslam Sheikh, son of late Ansar Ali Sheikh of Kornapur Uttapara village in the town. Acting on secret information, a DB team, led by Senior Assistant Police Superintendent Makbul Hossain, conducted a drive in the area at about 5pm and arrested Aslam. Later, following his confessional statement, the elite force recovered the firearm and ammunition by digging the earth at his house. In Jhenidah, Rab-6 arrested an alleged arms peddler from Baro Bazaar village under Kaliganj upazila and recovered a foreign made pistol and six bullets from his possession. The arrestee is Shahidul Islam, 35, son of Abul Khayer of the village, reports our correspondent.
