Mob kills 'robber', injures 3 others in two districts
An alleged robber was killed and three others were injured in mob beating in Noakhali and Feni districts early yesterday.
In Noakhali, A gang robbers entered the house of one Suresh Chandra Karmaker at Shibpur village under Begumganj upazila at around 2:30am, reports our correspondent.
They confined the members of the family to a room and started looting gold ornaments, money and other valuables.
As the family members cried for help, villagers rushed to the spot and chased the gang. They caught one of the gang while the others managed to flee. The villagers beat up robber, leaving him critically injured.
Being informed, law enforcers from Begumganj Model Police Station, went to the spot, rescued the injured robber and took him to Noakhali Medical College Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries at 2:00pm.
In Feni, locals caught three robbers at Fatahpur village under Fulgazi upazila at around 3:00am yesterday and beat them up, according to a correspondent.
Police quoted locals as saying that a gang of robbers swooped on the house of one Manik Mian at the village at around 2:00am. As the members of the house cried for help, neighbours chased the robbers and caught three of them while the rest managed to flee.
They were identified as Md Ilias, 30, of Uttar Fathehpur village under Feni Sadar upazila, Kamal Uddin, 40, of Matua village under Chhagalnaiya upazila, and Abu Taher, 40, of Chitahila village under Parshuram upazila.
The villagers beat up the robbers and later handed them over to the police.
Acting Officer-In-Charge (OC) Mahi Uddin of Fulgazi Police Station said they yesterday produced the arrested robbers in a Feni court that sent them to jail .
UNB from Laxmipur reports: a gang of robbers looted gold ornaments, cash and other valuables worth Tk 20 lakh from a house of a former union parishad chairman at Dakkhin Hamsadi in Sadar upazila early yesterday.
former UP Chairman Abdullah Patwari said a gang of robbers numbering 10/15 entered his house breaking open the door at around 3:00am and took them to a room at gunpoint.
Later, the gang took away 30 tolas of gold ornaments, Tk 6 lakh and other valuables, he added.
