Fishes worth Tk 2 lakh of a pond were poisoned to death at Paschim Gilabari Derhalia village in Rajendrapur area of the city on Wednesday night. Locals and police said, there had been a longstanding dispute between two people over a piece of land. On Tuesday night, Abdul Bari, Hamiz Uddin, Akbar, Serajul, Rabiul, Golzar and Rashedul along with their men went to the house of Romendranath Shil and tried to call him out. As Romendranath didnot come out in fear, they hurled abuses and threatened him of dire consequence if he did not leave the village along with his family by Wednesday. The next day, Romendranath filed a general diary (GD) with Rangpur Kotwali police station. Being angry at this, they poisoned the water of Romendranath's pond at dead of night. Yesterday morning, dead fishes were found floating in the pond. Romendranath claimed he incurred a loss of at least Tk 2 lakh. Refuting the allegation, Abdul Bari and his men claimed that Romendranath Shil himself threw poison in the pond in a bid to blame and harass them. Altaf Hossain, officer in-charge of Rangpur Kotwali police station said police visited the spot and recovered an empty bottle of poison from the bank of the pond. We will take legal action against the culprits after investigation, he added.
